American singer-songwriter, Prince Rogers Nelson or Prince is remembered for his flamboyant and androgynous persona, eclectic work, and wide vocal range, which included a far-reaching falsetto and high-pitched screams. Everyone agrees that he was a musical genius.
Prince is known for one other thing as well -- for being not that tall. Actually, you can say that he was short -- shorter than the average American female.
A woman named Liz Jones wrote on Dailymail: "I wish his costumes – all with that toreador high waist to lengthen his legs – had been displayed at floor height, not on plinths, so visitors could stand next to all 4-feet-10 inches of him (I saw his passport when I was researching his biography; it stated his distinguishing feature was ‘dwarfism’; they really should have said ‘genius’) and marvel at the power from such a little man."
It is clear that Liz Jones did see Prince's passport but we are sure she didn't see his height listed in the passport as 4-feet-10 inches. We doubt Prince was below 5-feet tall, but then again Dailymail isn't exactly known to be a reliable source of news.
Prince has long been rumored to have been only 5-feet-2 inches tall. It is also known that he used to wear high heels though perhaps not for compensating for his lack of physical stature.
Eddie Murphy once commented that Prince is 5-feet-7 inches tall in his highest heels. Must be 5" pumps?
But the most amazing thing about Prince's height was his own casualness/flippancy about his short stature. The lyrics from his song "Pink Cashmere" go something like this: "Wontcha Come on back to your little man!"
And he once mentioned his usage of heels as well: "People say I'm wearing heels because I'm short. I wear heels because the women like 'em." Well, high heels don't suit most of the men but it suited Prince well enough -- perhaps because it did not make him a giant.
